The environment is a bigger issue than apartheid was in south africa, but investors around the world stopped investing in ssouth african companies. Institutional investors stopped investing in companies who were doing usiness in SA, so over time they stoped doing business there. The opportunity we have is to put money into and causing the existing investment vehicles such as mutual funds and pension funds to change their investment objective to exclude companies that have higher polluting indecies. We could go further and try to prevent the money managers from investing in companies that remove coal from the ground, or build/run coal power stations, such as TXU. Ask your company who manages the employee pension fund. Then ask what their environmenal policy is in investing. If the companies start to lose their shareholders and they understand why, they can start to change their behavior.
