I think the message in the DVD is an important one so I’ve bought 10 copies for giving away to my local libraries. They have readily accepted donated DVDs in the past. If you buy one copy via the link above then I’ll get around 20p from HMV (60p from Amazon) which will help offset the cost of the copies I’m buying to give away.
If for some reason I make more than £40 – I’ll buy more copies for giving away.
This offer is extremely promising and I attempted to order a few dozen DVDs through their site for our European DVD requests*. However, they charge for shipping on each individual item and therefore are quoting me 375 pounds just to ship the DVDs to me here in California. I am sure a large box would not cost so much and so regrettably I cannot take advantage of this offer.
* There is the issue of DVDs from the UK being region 2, so people in the US (our majority of visitors) would not be able to view it in standard DVD players.
That would definitely be ideal. However currently we are still catching up to all requests, including ones from EU residents. It is a somewhat labor and time intensive process, but ultimately rewarding since most people who have otherwise decided to no longer ask for a free DVD--instead, planning to see the film through other means--are writing to let us know.
In short, I was hoping to order them now while the offer was available. But you're right--keeping them out of the U.S. is more sensible (and sustainable to boot). I will continue contacting people in the EU in order to start our program of passing on the DVD (within localities) soon. Hopefully when it's underway we'll still be able to take advantage of HMV's low price.
Just an update. So far I've raised around £25 through the link above so many thanks for that. Copies have gone/are going to libraries in the following London boroughs:
